The subfamily Loricariinae BONAPARTE, 1831differs a lot from all other Loricariidae by having a long flattened tail, a single row of lateral plates and the absence of the adipose fin.
For determining the genera exactly it is neccessary examining morphological details. By combination of different characteristics it is possible generating a generic key to determine every single genus of this subfamily.
